#2 Taro and Three Mushrooms

Image
Yum yum for the Chinese potato: taro. It's one of my favorite ingredients in a sticky rice dish. Maybe that'll come up in a future recipe. This was my first time cooking with taro so you'll have to forgive for how it turned out. More on that later.  Original Recipe Verdict:  This dish is pretty hearty as taro is starchy so it'll fill you up  and has lots of yummy savory flavor. Easiness: 4/5 Tastiness: 4/5 Ingredients: 1 tspn ginger 1 lb taro 1/2 package of enoki mushroom 1 package beech mushroom 1 package gingko nuts 1 cucumber 1/2 tspn vegetable seasoning 1 tspn cornstarch oil for frying salt, pepper, and sesame oil to taste The original recipe called for straw mushrooms but I couldn't find that so I substitute with enoki (which is long and thin like a straw.. so that works right? hah). Just in case, I decided to only put half the package as it seemed like plenty of shrooms already. The beech mushroom packaging was super cute. Look at the litt

#1 Woodear with Gluten

Oh gee whiz my first official food post. How exciting! I spent 1.5 hours at Ranch 99 finding ingredients; it's probably the most time I've spent there. I'm sure I'll be knowing it soon like the back of my hand.  So today I made woodear with gluten, except Ranch 99 was out of woodear, so I used oyster mushrooms instead.  Verdict: The dish is pretty simple, sweet with a bit of kick depending on how much pepper you add. A bit of prep work is involved for taking off the stringy parts of the snow peas; otherwise it's cakewalk. Easiness: 3/5 Tastiness: 4/5 Ingredients: 1 package oyster mushrooms 1/3 package of baby carrots 1 package of sugar snap peas 2 cans of gluten 1 star anise 1/2 tspn pepper flakes 1 tspn soy sauce 1 tspn oyster sauce 1 tspn of cornstarch sugar to taste oil for frying The original recipe and ingredients can be found here . The first step is to blanch the sugar snap peas and carrots. Remember to snap off the ends of the sugar snap peas and pull ou

A New Beginning!

Welcome to my food blog, where I eat talk, cook, eat, live and breathe food. This blog is dedicated to the adventures of doing vegetarian recipes found on this Buddhist website . There are 125 recipes so there will be plenty of adventures to be had. If you ever watched Julie and Julia (2009), you know what this is about minus the drama and pearl necklace. And not that kind of pearl necklace.  I discovered this "gold mine" of vegetarian recipes by accident and I became so entranced by the yummy pictures (did you see the pictures?) that I decided that my new project will be cook these recipes and write about it. I love learning about new foods and this is a great chance to get my blog on.  As a disclaimer, I am neither a Buddhist or a vegetarian. I do however like to eat healthy so when the recipe calls for deep frying or sticking in a slice of american cheese, I probably will not. Let the adventure begin!
